Alternative economics
I am in the process of writing a book about an alternative to the free market system. Many people have an almost religious faith in free markets. When they work well, they can deliver unprecedented wealth. The problem is that they don’t always work well. From time to time, free market economies seize up causing widespread consternation. Even when free markets work well, the benefits are far from evenly distributed. Hundreds of millions of people live in abject poverty with little hope of improvement.
Defending free market economics seems easy because the alternative, centrally planned economies, has failed miserably in many countries over the last several decades. While centrally planned economies have many problems, their failure doesn’t prove that free market economics is the best system. There has to be more than two ways to organize an economy. It's time to admit that free markets have serious flaws. It's time to look for better alternatives.
I have been thinking about the problems with free markets for years. I have come to the conclusion that unemployment and poverty cannot be adequately addressed in free market economies. Bold steps need to be taken to create an alternative economic system that can meet peoples' needs. I have developed a new economic system that I have outlined in the Economics section of this website.
To persuasively present my ideas, I am writing a book that carefully develops my ideas. I am using this web site to present my core ideas so that I can get early feedback on my work. In the material I present, I intend to be provocative instead of persuasive. I am continually updating this web site as my research and writing progresses. I hope that you find my ideas interesting.
