Introduction - Vision

Imagine a world where we all can find jobs with adequate pay. We all have access to clean water, food, clothing, shelter, education, and basic health care. Some of these things we buy for ourselves with our own money. Other things are provided by the government, paid for from taxes. The economy adapts and changes over time without disrupting our ability to meet these needs. We can save for our retirements with confidence because the value of our savings is stable. Instead of worrying about how the economy works, we can focus on other pressing problems. This is a world I want to live in. This is a world we can create if we are willing to throw out some long-held beliefs. We can build a new economic system that works much better than our current one. We just have to believe that it is possible.

Unlike bad weather that we simply have to cope with, we shouldn’t have to put up with a bad economy. The economy is a system that we write the rules for. If we don’t like something about how it works, we should fix it. We can create institutions, enact laws, and develop regulations. The number of possibilities is limitless.
